Born on April 5, 1955, in Kerala, India, Senapathy “Kris” Gopalakrishnan demonstrated an early aptitude for science and engineering. He completed his Master’s degrees in Physics and Computer Science from IIT Madras, one of India’s premier institutions. It was here that his passion for computing and innovation began to take shape, laying the foundation for a remarkable career.

Founding Infosys: A Defining Moment
In 1981, Kris co-founded Infosys along with N.R. Narayana Murthy and five other tech professionals. With limited capital but a bold vision, the team set out to build a world-class software services company. Infosys was born at a time when India’s IT industry was in its infancy. Kris brought deep technical insight, helping the company establish a robust technological backbone in its formative years.

Contributions Beyond Infosys
After retiring from Infosys, Kris shifted focus to entrepreneurship, research, and philanthropy. He co-founded Axilor Ventures, a startup incubator that supports early-stage companies in India’s tech ecosystem. He also supports multiple research initiatives in neuroscience, aging, and innovation.
Notably, he donated ₹225 crore to establish a Centre for Brain Research at IISc, a world-class facility focusing on mental health and brain disorders among the elderly—one of the largest private donations to science research in India.
